Hole sleeve?

Who out there uses hole sleeves for their wheelhouse or permanent skid house? Are they worth a shot or not? I previously would fill in the gap with slushy snow, but this can be a little of a pain in the rear.

Also, how long do you cut them so they are not sticking out of the hole? I usually block my wheelhouse up on 2x4's. Do you try and get them perfectly flush with the ice?

Just looking for some feedback before possibly picking a couple up at the show this weekend.

Thanks, Matt

I use them , leave them full length. so what it they are up and out of the hole, it stops minor mishaps, cell phones, keys pliers etc from going down the hole plus it really stops the air. I drill my holes and clean out some slush, place the tube in the house hole and them take the remaining slush and seal the bottom. Your holes will stay open in the coldest weather and it really helps keeping the house sealed with no drafts.

I made several of these out of 5 gallon buckets for my wheelhouse. I also block it up on 2 X 4's so once the house was down I measured from the top of the catch cover to the ground. Next I took that measurement and put it on the bucket under the molded rim and cut off the bottom of the bucket. The bucket fits vey tight in the catch cover and the bucket's molded rim catches on the top of the cover. The insides of the buckets do get frosty so I am thinking of gluing on a layer of foam insulation. This happens more when there is not enough snow to bank the house properly.

I use full length sleeves that glow and what I do is use one 4X4 block and stack on small piece of 2X4 block on top of that at each corner. The sleeves fit flush to the floor and let no air inside the house. This system works great for me! No trip hazzards in the the fish house. Give it a try!

We use them....and they stick out a wee bit, but that's exactly how I like it. That way, nothing gets kicked into the hole.

We insulated ours a few years ago, and it's amazing how much of a different that can make. We used old carpet squared and reflectix. Works like a charm. smile
