Down Deep
Yesterday I was picking some cabbage and noticed a small green caterpillar crawling on top of the cabbage head. I also noticed a green slime on some of the heads. I'm fairly sure the caterpillar is bad news so what do I do to get rid of it. Does anyone know what the green slime is. Incidently my cabbage is doing great up to this p[oint.
Dotch
Green slime w/o a picture, not sure although a guess when it comes to goo and slime on plants, it's frequently bacterial related. A wound created by a feeding insect or other agent can be an open invitation to bacterial infection, particularly if conditions have been moist. A little light reading on LGW's (little green worms) in cabbage and other cole crops. http://www.extension.umn.edu/projects/yardandgarden/ygbriefs/e253caterpillarpests-cole.html http://www.extension.umn.edu/projects/yardandgarden/ygbriefs/e-cabbageworms.html http://www.vegedge.umn.edu/vegpest/colecrop/cabbworm.htm http://www.vegedge.umn.edu/vegpest/colecrop/looper.htm
