shawn1982
So here goes. I bought a used trailer from a dealership, they were selling for a private party. The dealership gave me an application to title which the private party had signed. I took it to the DMV to title and they told me that there is a title on it and that there is also a lean holder on it. So I called the dealership back and told them that. The guy told me that I have two options. 1) He is going to get ahold of the owner and hopefully he cooperates and he will send the title, If he has it or can get it from the bank. I cant imagine its not paid for??!! and 2) worst case scenerio the guy doesnt cooperate and i go back to the dmv and title it as a homemade trailer. How could I even do that if its got a lifetime license on it and its got a plate number? Can the dealership even legally sell the trailer without getting the title from the owner? The DMV also told me that when they send the title both him and his wife have to sign it. So I know its in both their names, So what Im thinking maybe they divorced and no one ever got the title. Am I screwed or what?
Red Cabin
Hopefully the 1st option works out. Do you have a receipt from the dealer? Maybe you can return it for a refund and let them deal with it. A lifetime liscens sticker can probably be removed with a grinder and replaced with one for a home built as a last resort.
