Rainy Lake

Some friends of mine are headed to Rainy Lake from 9/29-10/5. We have come here for the last 4 years and are always optimistic about our trip but usually leave a little disapointed. We hear about anglers catching 30-40 fish a day (from smallmouth to walleyes to northerns to crappie. The lake is so big and consuming that we spend too much time wondering where we should be fishing, what type of bait we should use and the methods that are best. Can someone give us some advice as to good areas to fish? I am really excited as usually about getting up there and would be even more excited about bringing in more than 8-10 fish each day. We typically stay on the Northern side of Rainy Lake.

I also wanted to find out if there are some good places to locate a Muskie or two.

Thank you for any advice you can give me. Regardless of our success the lake is beautiful and we will be excited to be up there.
