Recommendations on get away

Any recommendations on where to go for a 3-5 day get away over memorial weekend? Was thinking Rainy lake for the scenery, but thought Id ask others. I'm looking for good bass fishing and some walleye, want the scenic deal similar to Rainy. Full accommodations needed(lodging)not doing the tent deal on this trip. Just me and my wife for a great time to RELAX.

VERMILLION Hands down. Better fishing then Minnesota side of Rainy and looks very much the same

with what your looking for rainy lake would be a good choice. it's got all of that what your looking for and some nice crappies also. my wife and i stayed at hungry jack lodge on hungry jack lake a couple of years ago in the fall for a week. we had our best walley fishing right off our dock that came with the cabin. early morning and an hour before dark. bobber and leach just a few feet from the dock as we sat on our chairs. we ate walley every day. did some lake hopping during the day for trout on some of the lakes on the gunfling also. gunflint or rainy you got great scenary. good luck.

What he said! If you are after bass (you posted in the bass forum),the US side of Rainy can't hold a candle to vermillion. Don't forget about the largemouth either.

reinhard1---Hungry Jack is a sweet place. I've been up there probably 10 times. Great smallmouth action. I actually have a trip booked up there the first week in July.

i was up there with my wife like i said. a couple weeks after that the owner died. what a great guy. he would come around with the polaris and ask me if i wanted to go partridge hunting. i hardly knew the guy. i didn't have a licence so i went along for the walk. he got a couple of birds and invited my wife and i later for a little luch with the birds in the mix. the son now runs itwith his wife. great people. toward evening just fish off the dock. they come in for a feeding frenzy real close to shore. it lasts about an hour and they leave. hope you have a great time there. i realy miss the gunflint. good luck.

Yeah my family new the owners really well. Jerry was a great guy! Always fun to be around. I actually just called his son Forrest today about our trip in July. I've never fished walleyes up there before but might have to try it!

Hard to beat the scenery on Rainy, but the smallmouth can be like ghosts up there on the U.S. side (like Cecil said). Vermilion used to be my hands down favorite. The fishing can be tough at times, but for the most part they are willing. However, I have now declared Pelican near Orr my favorite. Largemouth and smallmouth are available and in numbers with size to boot. The only downside of that lake is the wind. That lake can turn nasty (not Rainy nasty) when you get a 25+ blow from any direction.

it is open north of hwy 53 and east from there. opens May 14th this year in this area. usualy always opens in this area before it's open statewide. good luck.

Thanks guys. I'm going to look into Vermilion never fished it before. Ive fished Rainy and liked it as far as the scenery and the fishing wasn't bad.

BASS will be the main goal, with Walleye for the pan while were there. That was the best part about Rainy. Is Vermilion as rocky as Rainy?

Vermillion is plenty rocky but it has areas where you can fish slop for largemouth too.

Thats the beauty of Vermillion. Want reeds for largemouth you got it. Want shallow or deep rocks for smallies you got it. Want cabbage for largemouth, you got it. There is nothing it doesnt have for cover...

Ok weve settled on vermilion. Is it proper to ask on here where I should be looking to stay? Not sure of the forum rules on that.

Anyone have a recomendation for decent rates and nice place?

I would stay somewhere in the middle of the lake like Timbuktu Resort or Ludlows. If you stay at one of the ends of the lake it will take you forever to get to the other end. If you stay in the middle you can head east or west depending on weather and where fish are active.
