drift wood question

Didnt know were to put this, so decided that it will go in here. My question is, is it legal to take drift wood off the shores of minnesota waters.

Someone some time ago told me that in Wi it is not legal to take drift wood from the shores.

Funny you should mention the DNR.I was curious so I called the Forestry division of the DNR in St.Paul and was informed the taking Any wood from MNDNR properties is unlawful.(Unless approved by the commissioner).When dealing with private property questions I was advised to seek the advise of a real estate attorney.

Dont take anything from a state park! The animals depend on that piece of drift wood, or that antler shed!!!!!

You ever speed? Ever take a right at a stop sign and not come to a complete stop? It's driftwood. Yes, I believe some laws and regulations have a little "wiggle" room or at least I'm willing to bend them a little. Does that make me a horrible conservationist? Maybe, but I sleep just fine at night.

If your 4 year old daughter was walking through a park and found a stick she really liked and wanted to give to mommy as a present, would you make her throw it back?

I think Driftwood Bandits will unfortunately have a free run of the state and federal lands soon anyway. As the Driftwood Enforcement SWAT Team funds will likely dry up in the new budget cuts.

haven't we all brought something back from the woods? i'm not talking about a load of wood for the fireplace. how many people even know you cant even take a rock from a river or lake, any state waters. years ago while out fishing i saw a piece of driftwood that would be perfect to mount a fish on. i took it home and some years later i had a 22 pound pike on it. have two 15 in crappies on another. 3 pound brook trout on another.

i had no idea at the time you could not do that. i had a habit of taking a rock from some of my favorite lakes and put them in my aquarium. size of an egg. picked agates from the shorelines of lake superior. who hasn't done that? still today this goes on. i bet most do not know what the laws are regarding that.

i called the dnr on that the other day. he said they dont have time to enforce that type of stuff, but it is in the books and if a CO saw someone put a piece of wood in the trunk they would tell them to put it back in the woods. that's their job of course. if they saw someone take a load of wood without a permit then a citation would be in order. thats what i think the law is for. not for a rock or some favorite walking stick. good luck.

i talked to a person from the boundary waters office. you can burn any dead wood you want for the purpose of a campfire. good luck.

And if you are camping on State Forest Land you may gather wood, and driftwood for that matter for your campfire. Ya just can't take it home.
