MAYFLY HATCH ?

CRAPPIEBAIT

Recommended Posts

We had the "fish fly" hatch on our lake last weekend. You may be seeing the remnants of another hatch. These flies look like a large mosquito but without the stinger. Mayflies typically hatch early/mid June, but the fish fly hatch is typically late May. Everything may be pushed a couple weeks early this season.

Beer batter, While at a campground, a group of folks from China were there camping for thier first time. They were biologists/naturalists, they were collecting insects. They were very excited when I told them I would give them some "fish flys" when I returned from fishing that evening. They showed up at supper time VERY excited! Thier excited faces soon turned to sad/disappointed/disgusted looks when I showed them the jar of "fish flys". Puzzled, I asked them "Why?". After some struggled conversation I found out they thought I was going to make them a "fish fry"!! grin.gif
I apologized to my hungry guests then asked them if they ever ate a different type of "traditional American" food, something I could whoop up quick....Ramen noodles, Spaghetti, and Chop Suey!!! grin.gifgrin.gif
