caseymcq
I am getting ready to press the ball joints out of the lower control arm on my 2004 GMC Sierra. I have read that there will be either rivets or crimps on the OE ball joints. I see no rivets at all so I am assuming I have the crimps. I have read that the crimps either have to be taken off with an air chisle or a grinder. I just want to make sure I am going at the right areas. Are these the crimps I am supposed to remove? caseymcq
I just wanted to follow up on this incase anyone else ends up working on this same (or similar) project. Those were the crimps that have to be removed. I got in there with an angle grinder (very carefully) and ground down those areas. I sprayed penetrating lube top and botton, let it soak for a while then wiped off the excess. I put the press on got it as tight as I could with the rachet and then got out what I now affectionately refer to as the Meat Stick (a 25" breaker bar ) for some leverage. A couple turns with that and the ball joint made a pop breaking loose from the corosion. After that it was back to turning it with the rachet. Now I get to put everything back together
