What do I do here?

Went fishing yesterday, had 20-25 follows, couldn't get em in the net! Followed DCG's chased on the 8 would follow through 2 8's then leave. Switched to a phantom, worked it real slow, nipped at the tail multiple times, gill flare and all, chased my eights then gone. Switched to the biggest and baddest bulldog I have, Had a thick high 40's fish follow up, went into my eight and she sunk, dipped my rod to the reel and eighted more, on the way up she came up real aggressive took half the tail in her mouth then turned and spit it out.

I get it, it's fall muskies like suckers however I am pretty novice on the rigs and what not, worried I could kill a fish so I am leary about using them. What should I have done? Anybody have the answer to this?

I also just wanted to say I have been reading these forums all season long and I really appreciate all the tips.

Did you try to speed up your retrieve? First instinct is to slow down in the fall, but this is not always the most productive. Also, how fast did you go in the 8? Really ripping the bait into the first and second turn can sometimes get them to go when they otherwise won't.

Must've been a fun day seeing that many fish! Good luck!

Sounds like to me you were doing everything right.

Having that many follows shows this.

Getting fish to go last few inches is very tricky...even for the so called best in the bizy...if they say other wise their most likly fibbing.....sometimes they just don't chew.....period.

For sure fun stuff having a day like you had.

Only suggestion from me without being boring or like everyone else online thinks they knows muskiefish well....would be to hit them at sunup an sunset hard....an again at any moon rise or set time period.

cool

I have had dayz like this, KING OF THE FOLLOW I call myself..have some laughs, know I had fun an the hounds or friends also enjoy them is ok good to go on these dayz.

Remeber the fish are the HOME TEAM everytime out..you are the visitor.

You have to bring your A game everytime out.... as it looks like you did...but then the fish have to do THEIR part also to complet the game...big smiles an photo up time.

Enjoying this knowing full well your not going to win every time out no matter what you do.....it is just that way.

Sometimes even looseing is fun......oh yeah.

Thanks for the post...made me smile.

Keep on rocken.

I was novice on the sucker harnesses before last week as well but gave it a shot and had the most fun I've ever had muskie fishing over 3 different days using them. 6 out of 7 fish came on suckers and all had easier hook releases than most baits. If you've found that many active fish and want to put a few in the net, then find some suckers and go.
