Replacing Emergency Brake Cable

Recommended Posts

2004 Silverado Z71. It broke where the cable connects to the arm that releases the brake. The handle does not retract. How hard is it to do? I won't have time for another few weeks to work on it, dang hunting, but I'll need to order the part. Any help on the part number is appreciated.

Should be pretty simple.

1. Remove the park brake release lever mounting bolt.

2. Remove the park brake release lever handle from the knee bolster.

3. Disconnect the park brake release cable from the lever.

Installation Procedure

1. Connect the park brake release cable to the lever.

2. Install the park brake release lever handle to the knee bolster.

3. Install the park brake release lever mounting bolt. Tighten to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).

Part number will possibly be 15226272 or 15226269 depending on model.

Part can be had at rockauto for under $20 (DORMAN Part # 924305)

These parts are the cable and handle, sold as one.
