pureinsanity
I know some of you might have done this and some of you want to try it. I am building a rod for my father, its going to be a shot gun themed rod with possibly some pheasant feather inlays. I had an old shimano rod I use to catch bait with. So I figured what the heck! Ill make this rod my test rod for new wraps and techniques. I laid down my first layer of thread for a tiger wrap. (I want to do a small tiger under wrap for a feather inlay on the butt. I figured it maybe give it a pretty cool look having a tiger wrap underneath the feather.) As I was coating it with epoxy I decided to try some marbling with some jig paint I have. Needless to say the paint doesn't mix well with the epoxy AT all. So do not use jig paint as your pigment! Although it looks as if it worked. It really doesn't!!!! Its all clumped together on the rod. It doesn't have a smooth finish at all I figured this would be a good thread for the people who have successfully done some marbling to list the types of paint they used.... Gary_l
So far the best paint that I've used for marbling has been testors enamel....yep same stuff that we used as kids for model cars. It mixes well, doesn't clump and you get a good finish. I bought some at micheals, they have a great assortment and its like $1.75 for a small bottle. You can see a marbled guide I did under the rod and lure topic (its red white and blue to match the flag wrap).
