Wild Rice Processing?

HOGEYE

Recommended Posts

I have been doing a little bit of ricing and was wondering what others do for the processing. The one place that I know of requires 300# min. I don't have that much, and does one get their same rice back? Thanks for any help.

You should always get your own rice back since quality varies depending on which bed it was picked from and when it was picked. We just brought a thousand lbs. to a processor and that's the amount he wants since he has large parchers that hold that amount. If you can't find anyone to finish your rice you may want to try hand parching it yourself.

We're talking about the harvesting and processing of wild rice. It grows in many Minnesota lakes and rivers and the harvest is controlled by the DNR. A license is required and there is a season with hours when rice can be harvested.
