Had my yammi kicker in the shop this spring for a tune up and was told I needed a complete carb kit...so I said go ahead for $170. So now I can't get the thing to keep running. Haven't taken it back to the shop yet, but I've changed the fuel filter, the gas lines, the fuel, and put on a new fuel pump. It starts right up, but dies after four or five seconds. So I covered the carb intake with my hand(praying it wouldn't back fire)and I can then keep it running by varying the amount of the intake pipe that I cover. So what's the deal? Is the choke not functioning? Do I need to redo the carb kit? I'm hoping one of you has experienced a similar situation. Thanks guys.

Sounds like it is running extreamly lean. By covering the air intake you are effectivly cutting off the air, thus richening the air/fuel ration to a point the motor can run. Take it back to the shop that did the work and have them fix it.
