Huntin&Fishin
Whats your guys thoughts? Is the TE worth thae extra 100 dollars? Has any one had any of these burn out in gears?
brad coin
are you gonna go with just one rod and reel???then I would go TE because it will handle big bladesif your planning to go couple rods,,,then a calcutta will do fine on a jerkbait specific rod has your mostly picking up slack between pulls
smeese
Worth it for the Level Wind alone.
propster
Except the regular Calcutta or Calcutta B has level wind also, so it's not like for $100 you're getting the level wind.
JRedig
I assume your speaking about the 400 size? The B series is pretty good for the money depending on your intended use. TE's, well they're a TE, they're not known for being the best musky reel for nothing. If it does break, you get the premium service deal, so that's nice. PDXFisher
For the money, I'd rather have a Luna than a 400B. I'd rather have a TE than a Luna. I have two Lunas, a 400B and a TE.
NCLaker
Absolutely love my 400TE - especially with a power handle (mine is from a Shimano Takota). My 400B is pretty much a spare/backup reel. Worth the extra $$ IMO.

Considering the luna's tendency to lose anti-reverse, i'd pick the 400b, but that's just me. A quick search around the net finds lots of anti-reverse problems with those reels. PDXFisher
Had no issues in four years with my Lunas. The 400B has needed its plastic gears swapped out twice. It's only a spare now.

Line pickup is only 24"/crank, I think. You need something like a Saltist or Trinidad if you you want to pull blades under the bubble.
