boat repair?

I have a 16ft Bluefin aluminum boat with a riveted hull that had a new floor put in and now is leaking somewhere. Any advice on how to fix? How about Line-X or Rhino Liner?
Any help is much appreciated.

What you need to do is put some holes in the hull so the water can drain out...

JUST KIDDING!

Actually, if you put the plug in and use a hose to put some water in the boat (make sure it is level in respect to how it sits in the water) you will be able to see where the water is leaking out. After that, you should be able to plug the holes appropriately, depending on the nature of the exact leak, etc.

Actully you don't have to plug the rivets, just tighten them up a bit.

Here is how to do it,first of all you have to find the ones that leak,as mentioned above, mark them with a marker or a pencil.

Then you will need a buddy and a couple 3 pound hammers, one it held above on the same rivet, then the guy underneath gives the rivet some taps, you dont need to beat them up,just tighten them a little.you might want to run down all of them.

This works,my Dad and I have done it to fix many leaking boats.

I used to have a Blue Fin and it also started leaking. I tried just about everythibng and it just kept getting worse. Finally took it to the dealer and he had to replace one rivet. I was amazed at how much water was coming in from one bad rivet. Good luck but I will guess you will have to take the floor out and replace it. Just my guess though!!!!

I have a 14 foot lund that leaks. I am on my 21 st package of JB Weld. I have used my fingers to put JB Weld on every rivet and every seam. It's a lot of work (and about $80.00) but others have told me it really works. I know I will catch more fish (and have dry feet) being I will no longer have to open the boat up and pull the plug for 10 minutes for every 2 hours on the lake. I have also tried bondo but it doesn't last very long being it cracks pretty easily. Go od luck.

I just finished putting on a product simular to JB Weld on my old 14 footer. Any cold weld product works just as well as JB Weld at half the cost. Great stuff!!!

    • My kid was eating in Beverly Hills and ran into this guy. Talked to him a bit and wished him luck in the game tonight.
    • 🤔as a recovering machinist!🤣🤣that must make me a recovering welder!
    • As a recovering machinist, I can appreciate that.  If the spec is 0.001 - 0.0015, then clearly the correct measurement is 0.00125, duh…
    • I just figured that it is easy enough to just get a 3 bank so when the boat is not in use I can keep all 3 batteries charged. I have not bough a charger yet, maybe I will give it some more thought. Edit: After thinking this over, with the size, weight, and heat output of the charger (as well as the cost) I think it makes sense to just buy a 2 bank charger, I have a smaller charger i can use on the starting battery when the boat is sitting at home. Forgive me, for i am a retired engineer and I have to obsess over everything...
    • Congrats on the motor!  I think you’ll like it.   I can’t say much on the charger location but I’ve seen them under the lid in back compartments and under center rod lockers.  160 degrees is more than I expected to hear.   Curious why you’re opting for a 3 bank charger with a 24V trolling motor.  Unless you don’t feel you be running you big motor enough to keep that battery up as well?
    • I did buy an Minnkota Ulterra, thanks for the recommendations. I had a bunch of Cabela"s bucks saved up, which helped. Now i need to get an onboard battery charger. Where do you guys mount these things in your boat? The manufacturer I am looking at {Noco genius) says tht their 3-bank charger will run at 160 degrees, seems like a lot of heat in an enclosed compartment? Thanks for any input on this.
    • You're very lucky a troop of Sea Monkey's didn't carry you away.
    • Wasn't terrible at a state park beach. Antelope island maybe.  I wouldn't recommend it as a beach destination tho.  Figured I was there, I'm getting in it.
