Good rule of thumb is to keep your feet wet. They may own the land around a stream but the river belongs to the state.
If a land owner does comes out to yell at you because they think your trespassing, don't get out of the water.
Your safe as long as your in the water.

ND, SD, & MN read it as on the water your on public lands/waters. Set one foot on a shore and you are on the land of the owner of the property that meets up to the rivers.

Old bank lines do not man anything so walking the shore is not public domain in ND & MN, & SD.

Ask before you go, and ask often, never assume last years, or even last months permission, is still granted.

Better yet, get it in writing to when you are allowed to access an area, from when to when.

Considering a sportsman can loose his or her hunting and fishing rights for up to 5 years for any trespassing violations, it is well worth the time and effort to get the confirmations.

90% of property owners, if treated respectfully, will allow access. Once they get burned by SLOBS, who can blame them for shutting it down to all?

Last year landowners shut down a couple very hot fishing area in my region because of SLOBS. I worked hard to get the access reinstated, stuck MY neck out.

Well, now the SLOBS are at it again, and you guessed it, it will be shut down again...for good this time. They are set to impound all vehicles on the property and agresively prosicute the offenders, yup the SLOBS managed to really [PoorWordUsage] them off now Eh. Ruined it for all, ATA-BOY-SLOBS! frown.gif

Plus, I look the fool for sticking my neck. Not so sure I will ever do it again either, why should I? Live and learn I guess Eh?

Ya know, some people are there own worst enemy's, and never fail to prove it, even when given the chance to change.
