My First Fishing Report

Recommended Posts

I have followed the forum casually for a long time, mostly just keeping up with what's going on "back home" in Minnesota. I have to say that Fishing MN is the best fishing site out there. The people on here are generally very friendly, and the conversation does not seem to devolve quite as badly as it does on a lot of other forums. At any rate, it would be great to see some more activity in the WI forums, so here is my report...

I have only been out on the Madison Chain this winter. In an effort to avoid the crowds on some of the lakes, I am spending most of my time between Lake Wingra and University Bay.

WINGRA:

Action has been pretty consistent; not much size to the gills, but some nice crappies, with the potential for some real slabs. I haven't gotten into any of those monsters yet this year, but I have been on a nice bite of 8-10" fish lately -- mostly after dark.

U-BAY:

The bite has been very inconsistent for me. I am mostly fishing tip-ups out here, with a few northerns around dusk. Again, no huge fish for me, but I have seen a few 40" fish caught around me.

Before ice is out, I will probably try to make a trip or two over to Racine or Sheboygan Harbor for some trout fishing. Within a month, it will be time to get the boat out again and start fishing the WI River.
