Joint Supplement for pup recovering from OCD

My 8 1/2 month choc lab is recoving from OCD surgery on his shoulder which he got done about 6 weeks ago. The chip they shaved off was almost the size of a nickel.

Shoulder seems to stiffen up a bit after he lays around for a little while or comes out of the kennel, and I thought it might be a good idea to put him on a supplement to help his recovery - he's doing pretty well but shoulder seems to stiffen up on him after he lays around for awhile and I was hoping he'd be a little farther ahead in recovery than he seems to be. I realize I should have started this right away but better late than never, we just want to get him back to 100%.

I searched old posts and looks like synovi G3 and Rimadyl were popular for older dogs but didn't know if they'd also work well for pups. Most of the joint supplements I've looked at carry the same 4 or 5 ingredients. Any advice about supplements, care or recovery would be greatly appreciated.
