Clam Nanook Thermal Questions

Wondering if anyone has seen one setup in person? I know its the same fabric as the Thermal X and so on. My questions are, is the short hight gonna interfear with hook sets, Is it a doable 2 man or really just a good one man, does it have the newer style tub or older one? I currently heve the otter lodge and love it just getting a little beat up from years of abuse on LOW!! I really like the space but usually fishing alone so was wondering if i could get buy with the nanook or go to the Thermal X wich is comparable to the Otter.

Walleyes - I own a Nanook Thermal. Short height should not interfere with hooksets - it is taller than my Clam Scout which was my "goto" house. Very doable 2 person (IMO) - I am 6'2" / 190#'s and there is room for 2 my size no problem. Do not mount the seats to the tub and you can slide and/or remove them easily making even more room. If you remove 1 it does make a nice 1 person as well. Old style tub - it is not very deep. I plan on pulling mine by hand so the tub is adequate (and lightweight) but if I were going to be pulling mine with my sled I would probably look elsewhere. Nanook is a lot lighter than the thermal X so they are really two different animals. If I were towing - I would probably go thermal x. Hope this helps and good luck. Paul

walleyes west, it would be to far for you to go but I have seen one at fleet farm in st cloud. they look like a nice house. I will probably buy one of them either sometime this season or forsure by the start of next season.

I think its pretty much the same size and replaces the Fish Trap Pro, if that helps at all. I have a Fish Trap Pro and regularily fish two guys out of their no problem, however we aren't huge guys either.

Just for clarity - it is the same size as the discontinued Clam Guide which is quite a bit bigger than the pro (83" x 61" versus 80" x 45"). Similar center height as the pro both around 60" - 61" so not quite stand-up. This has never been an issue for me because I like to move around quite a bit - if I'm sitting for so long I feel like I need to stretch then I need to run and gun some more. The nanook is not ideal as a set-up and sit for an entire day of fishing house (unless you're really small). But then I've never understood why someone would buy a house designed for mobility (regardless of manufacture) then load it down with a bunch of stuff and upon setting it up never plan on moving. Sorry - I didn't mean to get off topic. Good luck and think ice - its coming. Paul

I bought a Nanook (non-thermal) last week. I was in the market for a one man but after sitting in a few of them I decided to get the nanook. I do a strong portion of my ice fishing alone but also like to bring the gadgets so a one man can fill up pretty quick. As for the height, it seems to be just fine. The sled seems to be on par with the old fish trap pro's in terms of size.

I was going to buy one until I sat in it. They changed the seats from last year and they suck! I'm looking for a guide now.

Jasper - interesting. I hated the guide because of the bench and so when they switched to seats (in the Nanook) that's what sold me. They're not super wide but they are a good height and have good back support. Obviously won't know for sure how they work until I use it but my first impression is positive. Just goes to show that buying a house (just like buying a boat) is buying what works for you - there really is no "best" house. Good luck. Paul

Too true. I find the seats to be nice for back support etc. I'm not a huge guy but I could see someone with a bigger build having issues with the seats. They are just big enough for me to be comfortable, but small enough to still access all my gear in the sled. Also, don't mount the seats to the sled if you go on your own quite a bit. The seats are a bit heavy and it's nice being able to leave a seat at home and center the remaining one.

Thanks for all the advice guys! Keep it comming. Just wondering all you people that have bought one will a 20LB propane tank fit in them with the seats in? The tank and heater is all I haul in mine across the lake. And maybe a couple eyes. It seems like the tub would not be good for pulling behind snowmobile? I do not have access to look at one so just wondering. All the sporting good stores have are the Thermal X and X4s up here.
