94 gmc steering

Recommended Posts

Sorry should have been more specific. I have quite a bit of play in the steering wheel. Truck has 130,000 on it so I don't expect it to be perfect but would be nice if we could get it tightened up alittle.

I am NOT a mechanic, but I did tighten up my 98 GMC Suburban this summer, it had 180K on it and had a lot of play in the steering wheel, I'm guessing the 94's aren't much different. The bottom end of the steering shaft goes into a gearbox, somewhere on the top of this gearbox should be a threaded bolt that can be used to take out the play. The bolt does not have a head on it, you put a (1/4" ?) hex (allen) wrench into the end of it, after cleaning out all of the grease and dirt that will be in there. Around this adjustment bolt is a locknut, maybe 5/8" or 9/16", you need to loosen that first and tighten it back down when you are done.
