  1. I just got my letter in the mail yesterday. We were succesful for area 61. First time applicant, I couldn't believe it. I hope to have the same luck on the hunt that we did in the drawing. Anyone else get one?
  2. One last chance, this is still available. It's in working order, don't let the dent scare you. It's going to the landfill soon if there are no takers.
  3. Bass N Spear, My email won't go to you for some reason. Try mine as listed above.
  4. If you go to federal's HSOforum you can download a ballistics chart for everything they make. I'm not a slug hunter, and I reload everything else I shoot, so I can't give you any first hand experience with them. But, this is still handy to have and I use it often for some quick comparisons. It will give you trajectory, energy, wind drift etc... in increments of 50 or 100 yards starting at the muzzle and going out to 500 yds. Hope this helps.
  5. I also use the Lansky system. Another one similar to it is made by Gatco. You get consistent results with both because you are always using the same angle.
  6. Deer and grouse hunting in general is very good. I've got a place SE of Strathcona. It seems to me there is getting to be more and more pressure on the public land the past 2-3 years. It used to be the place to get away from it all, not the case anymore.
  7. The only reason I'm not buying: I've had one for years and can't carry two. What a great gun, especially for the money. I've shot upwards of 300 shells in a day (target loads) without any jamming. I've taken it on week long pheasant trips to South Dakota shooting several boxes of real shells with no jamming or other problems. This thing is just as dependable as my 870, only it is a lot lighter to carry around all day.
  8. I'll talk about it. How can I get in contact with you.
  9. I'll share a quick piece of advice I got a few years ago that has made my range experience much more enjoyable. By far the best recoil pad I've used, not to mention the cheapest. All you have to do is go to your favorite home improvement type store and buy a piece of 1 1/12" pipe insulation (the kind you wrap your water pipes with). Cut a piece of it just long enough to slip over the but of your gun and you are good to go. I've shot 40+ rounds thru my 7mm mag and a 300 Win mag in a t-shirt and never felt a thing. I was amazed at how much recoil that thing will soak up. I felt it much more on my cheek than I ever did my shoulder.
  10. You can shoot them at Oakdale Gun Club. It is just east of the Lake Elmo Park Preserve and is open to the public every day now untill the 20th of November from 8:00 unitll 4:30.
  11. I've been wanting to get into predator hunting the past couple of years. If you don't mind teaming up with a newbie send me an e-mail. I'm in Cannon Falls, not too far from you if you're in Cottage Grove. My email is jjheinmn at netscape dot net.
  12. Oakdale range is now open to the public on the weekends. Cost has changed this year to a flat fee per shooter, regardless of how many guns. Beginning Oct. 1 it will be open to the public everyday thru November 20.
  13. Start with a 2x3 or 3x3 target with an aiming point or silhouette of what you're hunting in the middle. Fire from 30 or 40 yds or both. Take only one shot per target. What you are looking for is how many pellets are hitting the effective area of what you are trying to shoot. Some people do it as a percentage of what the load contains because, obviously, there are more pellets to start with in a 1 1/8 oz. load than in a 1 oz. load. Hope this helps.
  14. At the time, I was just vertical jigging from an anchored boat. Give it a pretty good rip up from the bottom about a foot and let it settle. Jig it hard enough that you can feel the action in the tail. You can also pitch it out and retreive much the way you would any other jig and plastic. Let it sink, give it a good tug back, and take up the slack etc... Good luck on your trip.
  15. I just started using them this year. I caught some very nice walleyes on pool 4 with them. I tried them on LOW for the opener as well. We were getting tons of bites on our jigs and shiners but coming up empty because of the lite bites. I got sick of checking my bait all the time so I threw the mimic back on. The walleyes absolutely pound these things. No lite bites. Three of us switched over to mimics and caught fish steady for over an hour. No more lite biters. I have several varieties but my favorite so far is a 3/8 firetiger with out the spin.
  16. I bought a set last year. I love them. They have kept me dry in the all day soakers and the long trips across the lake in big waves and spray. I am totally satisfied with the stuff.
  17. Cabelas boat covers are awesome. Worth the money, but, about this time last year I was able to buy one on their sidewalk sale for only $50. Keep that in mind because I think they do that every year.
  18. If everything else in your presentation is good enough that you need to start worrying about the color of your boat, I'd say you're in pretty good shape.
