sig
Does anyone have-use one? I saw them at the boat show and they looked like the ticket. I cant afford a stainless and would like a little more performance than aluminum. Thanks!
Hula_Grub
I have a piranha on my 14ft Lund classic with a merc 25 hp 4 stroke. I got it mostly because soon after I got the boat 2 years ago I bent the prop shaft and broke my prop bad.I can change single blades and get various pitches far more cheaply than buying a new prop costs, and the composite blades are supposed to shear rather than bend, thus saving the prop shaft and lower unit from damage. The resort I stayed at last year on Kabetogama had them on their rental boats for the same reason. Most of the guys with bigger motors on this board will tell you to stay away from piranhas because there is some loss of performance. On my little boat I didn't notice any loss, and I have a better chance of not needing to get my boat towed home than if I had a metal prop. So, it's easier and cheaper to change pitches and less likely to hurt the motor, but you might suffer some power loss on big engines. If I recall they have a very hassle free exchange program, but I haven't needed to take advantage of it.
