looking for some advice on how to clean the carbon on a 45 hp merc 1986 if anybody as done it or if where to start with it

If you mean carbon inside the engine both OMC and Yamaha have good products OMC's is called CarbonGuard and Yamahas is called Ring Free. If you have'nt used it before in the engine OMC recommends a pretreatment (I can't recall the name of it now) before you use the carbon guard. It will help the engine to use this type of product on a regular basis (more than once every 16 yrs).
