only one word for tonights hunt and that won't evan do it justice. all though I never fired a shot it was worth the effort of setting out decoys just to be witness to it.

can't wait for tommorow i'm not gonna get a lot of sleep

I sat on the shore line and watched as hundreds of flocks of anywhere from 10-50 birds per flock land in the middle of the lake when I was picking up decoys I bet there where at least 2000 or more birds in 1 flock over the lake it was truley "UNBELIEVABLE"

what was evan more unbelievable is that I could not get a single flock to decoy ........."not a 1" confused.gif

Where are you hunting? Or what part of minnesota? I hunted here in the metro by myself this morning. Seen about fifty mallards. I managed three greenheads. And one goose. I am kind of disapointed in the number of geese in the area. Alot more last year at this time. Tomorrow will be my last chance at some ducks this season.

SOUTH OF THE METRO ABOUT 25 MILES ,

I also went in the morning and never evan seen a duck but was lucky enough to find a good number of goldeneyes while glassing some lakes on my ride home.

I set up in the area later in the afternoon after pheasant hunting and they started to poor in about 2pm and just kept coming and coming and coming.... you get the picture

I seen goldens, sawbills both hooded and redbreasted , bills, mallards, cans , buffles and sadly enough though at about 100-150 yds I'm sure if you havent been out since this morning you will likley notice a difference tommorrow as far as the geese go there was never less than I would guess approx 50 geese over the water from 4:15 till sun set at times 200-300 all within sight of the decoys but I was not hunting for them. I could have taken a few geese today but passed

are the lakes frozen where you are ? most are 50 percent open or better here.

I may bring the video camera tommorrow if I go which I likley will. but I have other plans at the moment.

problem is I have no boat and only 15 diver dekes which 10 of which are goldeneyes, doesn't compete with a raft of thousands.

I have access to about 14 doz. more dekes but thats alot of work for 1 guy in waders.

and who's to say those birds won't migrate through the night and be gone by morning.

Yes they are. What a difference a day makes. I did not see a duck this morning. I only seen about fifty geese a mile up in the air. I am still disapointed in the number of geese in the area. Hopefully they will move in for some late season action. Not the way I wanted to end the season this morning. confused.gif

We got in on some of the action as well. Winter2007036.jpg There were three of us we would have had more but one of my buddies couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. And my gun kept jamming so I was sharing a gun. For all that went wrong it was a pretty good day.

    • Yeah it was a beatdown
    • Your kid needs to stay with him!👍
    • My kid was eating in Beverly Hills and ran into this guy. Talked to him a bit and wished him luck in the game tonight.
    • 🤔as a recovering machinist!🤣🤣that must make me a recovering welder!
    • As a recovering machinist, I can appreciate that.  If the spec is 0.001 - 0.0015, then clearly the correct measurement is 0.00125, duh…
    • I just figured that it is easy enough to just get a 3 bank so when the boat is not in use I can keep all 3 batteries charged. I have not bough a charger yet, maybe I will give it some more thought. Edit: After thinking this over, with the size, weight, and heat output of the charger (as well as the cost) I think it makes sense to just buy a 2 bank charger, I have a smaller charger i can use on the starting battery when the boat is sitting at home. Forgive me, for i am a retired engineer and I have to obsess over everything...
    • Congrats on the motor!  I think you’ll like it.   I can’t say much on the charger location but I’ve seen them under the lid in back compartments and under center rod lockers.  160 degrees is more than I expected to hear.   Curious why you’re opting for a 3 bank charger with a 24V trolling motor.  Unless you don’t feel you be running you big motor enough to keep that battery up as well?
    • I did buy an Minnkota Ulterra, thanks for the recommendations. I had a bunch of Cabela"s bucks saved up, which helped. Now i need to get an onboard battery charger. Where do you guys mount these things in your boat? The manufacturer I am looking at {Noco genius) says tht their 3-bank charger will run at 160 degrees, seems like a lot of heat in an enclosed compartment? Thanks for any input on this.
    • You're very lucky a troop of Sea Monkey's didn't carry you away.
    • Wasn't terrible at a state park beach. Antelope island maybe.  I wouldn't recommend it as a beach destination tho.  Figured I was there, I'm getting in it.
