HugoBox
Sunday looks to be decent weather in the Metro so my dad, brother, and I are going to listen to the Queen's game instead of watching it. I fish Bald Eagle and White Bear a lot, any thoughts on which gives me a better chance at a mid-day fish? Also which has been better this time of the year? I'm thinking that since my dad is getting old and my brother (who reads this board as well) is a wuss who tires easily I may end up trolling more than casting. Any input would be helpful as I normally fish real early or real late. I haven't fished a bulldawg yet though and am anxious to give it a try. cjac
I missed a nice fish on WBL two Sunday's ago, 3rd quarter of the game, clear skies, so it's definitely "doable". Problem with WBL is the sailboats will be out in full force on Sunday! Last Saturday was a zoo, they had a race or something, complete with the big turn markers, Yacht club boat and pontoon, etc. That said, I'd go BE or Forest even. If you troll, don't just follow the weedline or a specific depth, cover some deeper water too. Work the bulldawg down the weedline, and if on WBL work that over some of the deeper structure out there. Hitting WBL tomorrow AM, see if I can keep the streak going. setterguy
cjac, what color/make of boat do you have/ I will be out there tomorrow with my dad in his black lund mr pike with a 150 opti on it.
cjac
Justin, I think we're riding in my buddy's tomorrow, since he lives close by. Look for a tan and blue Mirrocraft with a 125 Merc opti. We'll compare notes and see what's working. Chris
Grant Pearson
I've had luck trolling bucktails in orange/black on BE in less than 10 feet of water. Try the eastern shore from the launch to the float plane (if it's there. If not, to just south of the island) and then try the western shore from the dam to the north bay. HugoBox
How did the rest of you do?Only moved 2 fish on WBL on Saturday - landed a really pretty but not big 32. Also had one miss a reef hawg by about 2 feet. It looked like a decent fish but I didn't get a great look at it. I saw another guy jlose what looked to be a really nice fish. The fish I saw were near clumps of still green weeds that come from 8-10 feet just about up the the surface. Spent a few hours out there yesterday but the wind made it really tough and we had two kids in the boat so we tried to fish "comfortable" spots. Its kind of depressing though - I spent the rest of the weekend cleaning guns and touching up decoys so I'm not sure how much more fishing I'll do this fall. I need to retire so I have enough time for fishing and hunting!!
cjac
I have sunglass tan marks on the side of my head to show for Saturday, that's about it. We moved one fish on WBL, a luke warm follow at best. That fish came out of shallow water following a topwater. Other than that it was slow going. I was throwing a jig for a while, came in one time and 1/2 the shaker was gone, could have been a little pike, but that's about it. Forgot about duck opener being this weekend, it's the time of year more and more poeple scatter and do different things, I'll likely stick to the water. HugoBox
Cjac - what kind of boat were you in? I have a green Alumacraft TP175 with a 150 Merc. I talked to a bunch of guys while fishing. One guys at the landing at about 3 on Saturday said he got a nice fish.
cjac
Saturday we were in my buddy's Mirrocraft with an opti on it. I like my Lund when I'm in the front, but the Mirrocraft drops down to a nice big back deck! Must have just missed you as we waited for a guy with a runabout with a bimini top on it to launch for well over 1/2 hour. Yeah, I'm still a bit crabby about that..... Was about 3 when we left the lot I'd guess. There were quite a few guys out, sometimes I think it would be kinda fun to compare notes on where we all hit and why. No offense but the more of you that go duck hunting the better! I'll be out this weekend, back in the Lund with the Yammy. Chris
Meat-Run
Hey Cjac, were you out on Alex this weekend and if so how was the algae??mr
HugoBox
No offense taken. I always look forward to the deer season to start because that thins the duck hunting herd a it. I agree, it would be fun to get a group together to compare notes a bit. I even like to see how different guys rig their boats. It seems like there are a hundred good ideas that people have for modifying boats to make them more comfy and easy to fish from. Maybe a friendly Sunday afternoon contest (no money) would be a good reason to skip a Vikes game and have some fun. Not sure if anyone else would be up for it.Erik
cjac
I think that sounds like a good idea, I agree on seeing how others set up stuff. For me since I'm in a 17 footer, space management and storage ideas are fun to see. Regarding Sunday afternoons: The Vikes are at the extreme low end of my priority list! Best thing about them is they help open up the lakes on Sundays!
MUSKY18
Meat-Run:I fished out on Alex on Saturday afternoon. Bit windy, but managed to move one really decent fish. The water was pretty green with a little slim on the top, but nothing worth worrying about. Wind was blowing it around pretty well, so depending upon where you were at on the lake, it was better or worse!
Meat-Run
Thanks for your reply. I did make alternate plans will fish another lake like MLs and see if we can put one in the boat that weights more than my first born. mr
