Whats your strangest find at the bait site?

I went in today, no logs rolled again but the bait was cleaned out, every last crumb, one softbal size hole that I had pluged up with a three foot branch just small enough to fit in was pulled out, I had moved a couple of logs to pour in the bait an rearranged the logs so their is no gaps large than a small kids hand to fit in. I then noticed on top of one of the logs was a handfull of moss, I picked it up to look at it cause i certainly did'nt notice it before, an underneath the moss was a dead mouse. Weird. The only thing I could think of was when I had move the logs at one time, possibley the last time, I had disturebed a mouse nest. or he ate to much junk food got sick an crawled under the moss to die.weird. It deffinatley was'nt there before, it looked like someone had actually placed it there. I know some folks mess with cribs in high crib areas like grand rapids but know one knows where my site is. Its just plane weired. Boar

I've had a few bait sites that were being actively hunted by hawks and owls. It was almost neater than bear hunting. The hawks would sit up on a tree and try to drop in on the red squirrels that were at the bait site. Pretty entertaining. Maybe something similar happened to you. I read a story about a guy who found a bunch of dead dogs around his bait site. Apparently some monster bear was killing them and caching their bodies there.

Boar, I had a problem like this last year and found that family of coons were taking my bait. I have also had wolves take the meat scraps out of my bait by only moving one log. at first i thought it was a small bear but the camera my wifes cousin put out had pics of wolves in the bait. try covering the bait with larger logs and then a decent size rock on top of that.

Last year was my first year out bear hunting. While I was on the stand I had a grouse come out and eat some corn. A cub then ran from the bushes and went for it.

The next hour or so sow and cub ate - the cub would swat at the birds coming in and chase the grouse. It was so fun to watch. I could never shoot a sow with cubs after seeing that.

Course my friend ended up hitting a boar with his bow and I had to scare the bear out of the bait - I was amazed that they did not run when I stood up and stomped my feet. Maybe the knew I was there the whole time; who knows.
