Late Night Shift!! (June 9th/10th report)

Fished an 8 mile stretch of MN river from 10:30 PM Sat until 4:30 AM Sunday.

Another skunk notch on our belts!

Allot of boaters (more so than other nights). Must have been because of Moore's Contest. We had got down to late to enter, but hindsight says we saved $20.00.

Drove up on spot #1 and found someone in spot. Stopped and asked how they were doing and the man stated he got a 30lber. We got pump with this info. We tooled up river a ways to an area (lets say filled with barges) and hit a mouth opening. We graphed bait fish and some large fish off bottom, so we anchored. This spot sported the most action from our bullies all night. I put us on a time schedule and purposed 50 minutes and we are out of here. I stuck by my guns and went to spot #3, then 4, then 5, then 6. We could not get any to hook up.

We threw 7", 5" and even 2-3 inch bullies out. Switch from 8/0 to 10/0 and then down to a 6/0 Octi. No luck!

Aaa, well. It was still fun.

There was the same die hard down their when we loaded at launch, that we have seen before. His or heir’s trailer is a flat bed, with rubber rib all over deck. Also it has rubber wheel wells and drives an older model Ford truck.

Wished we would have hooked into them around 3:00 am like Hanson and LFC did the night before.

I think Pool 2 is our next stop down in the cities. My brother in law had been down shore fishing since around 2:00 p.m. at Lillydale before I drove him back down to MN. They got 3 flats from shore ranging 10-13 lbs. The phone calls during and after theses fish were caught was my main reason for going down so late. Kind of a pep talk.

I tell ya, every Monday morning I come into work. Still feeling the strain of all night fishing (when I was younger I never felt) and swearing that I will never go down their again. (For krips sake, Mille Laces is only 1/2 hour away from my house and I could of caught 20-30 walleyes or more during this time.) I open the web page and reluctantly open MF's page and start reading. Now I want to go back again. It is a total 360 deg turn form what I felt only 3 hours ago.

In the end I chalk it up as paying my dues, like rushing says grin.gif.

P.S.

If I had been in Vegas, I would have bet every thing I had that I would of caught a personal best on Sat./Sun...

First off, we missed registartion at Moore's Bait.

Second, I realized when heading down to river (around 7th exit on 494) that I had forgot my most important tool. My camera. It was not a total loss, I had my cell phone and a spot light. It would of been hard, but would of got done.

After all this, it was just bad luck all the way around.

Plus I got an ear full from wife when I showed up at door step around 6:00 am. This could hinder my appearance at Mankato next weekend. I was in dog house yesterday. At least I have my brother in-law to back me up on were I was at. This is starting to wear thin though. Ah well, the cat man blues frown.gif.

There was a bunch of us out all night Saturday. Bob Moore said 90% of the people in the contest were gonna be on the MN river. Thats where I was also. Riverhog and I spent the 1st hour going after channels. Shortly after 8 switched over to Flatheads. I had 4 or 5 runs and caught only one small flat. That one came at 3:45am. A buddy of mine in another boat along the same strech of river managed only one 8 lber. Riverhog had a couple pick up and drop runs, but that was about it. Not sure if they were channels or finicky flats. Switched back to channel fishing for the last 45 minutes of the contest, but no last minute luck for us. The next Moore's contest is scheduled for July 21st by the way. cool.gif

Flaco651,

We stuck to just flats, not being in the running for Moore's and looking to upgrade for KOTC2007. This is all we target if we head down their. I thought for second I might have seen you and your buddies boats, but the two boats I seen come in together was around 2:30 to 3:00 am. I do believe I did see a jet boat come in before this and I think it was a river pro. Possibley one of the others guys.

We launched together but that was about it. We mainly just communicated by cell with them. They left a little after 3 a.m. As for FM'ers, Hanson passed by at about 5:30a.m. and LFC and Dtro were out all night miles down stream from us though.
