I found out last year after buying the Navionics Premium North Chip that it didnt work in my 15. I have the older great lakes chip and that works. The last years Lakemasters work good in the 15 and Im going to see if my new Lakemaster MN. Chip will work in it. Problem is all these new chips have way to much stuff on them for the 15 to handle. Im looking to upgrade my 15 to a new color unit for just this reason.

Problem is by the time I buy the new unit and install it newer chips will come out and they wont work in the new unit either. Electronics are almost are so quickly outdated is pathetic.

LakeMaster works perfect and integrates flawlessly with the X-15. Had the first version of the LakeMaster MN chip for the past two seasons in my X-15 and then use the same chip in my H20 during the winter.

I picked up the revised and improved 2007 LakeMaster MN chip this winter as well but haven't loaded that into the X-15 yet.

if you go onto lowrance's HSOforum you can get free software updates that you can use to get your unit up to speed. I just bought a new LCX 17 around Xmas and it already had an update on 12/29. I went Best Buy and bought a SD card and was able to download from the computer onto the card and then place it in my unit and it will automatically read that card and update all the software. I also did this with my original I-finder and now that will play the lakemaster chip as it originally would not. Just my .02 on saving some cash.

I believe that there may be an upgrade above 3.1 (check Lowrance web site). My dad did have a faulty chip when he first purchased his from Lakemaster. Give them a call and run through what your doing. They have great customer service.

Awesome advise guys...I have my batteries out of my boat, and my X-15 is in storage in my house, so I will have to wait until it warms up a bit and I can get my batteries back in the boat to make my upgrades.....

Has anyone tried the 07 chip with the X-15 yet???

Thanks guys!!! grin.gif

I went to Cabelas this past weekend and they had the 06 LakeMaster chip on sale for $70, but I decided to pick up the 07 version for $100. It had more lakes on it, plus some Wisconsin lakes as well. I can't wait to try it out!!!

    • My kid was eating in Beverly Hills and ran into this guy. Talked to him a bit and wished him luck in the game tonight.
    • 🤔as a recovering machinist!🤣🤣that must make me a recovering welder!
    • As a recovering machinist, I can appreciate that.  If the spec is 0.001 - 0.0015, then clearly the correct measurement is 0.00125, duh…
    • I just figured that it is easy enough to just get a 3 bank so when the boat is not in use I can keep all 3 batteries charged. I have not bough a charger yet, maybe I will give it some more thought. Edit: After thinking this over, with the size, weight, and heat output of the charger (as well as the cost) I think it makes sense to just buy a 2 bank charger, I have a smaller charger i can use on the starting battery when the boat is sitting at home. Forgive me, for i am a retired engineer and I have to obsess over everything...
    • Congrats on the motor!  I think you’ll like it.   I can’t say much on the charger location but I’ve seen them under the lid in back compartments and under center rod lockers.  160 degrees is more than I expected to hear.   Curious why you’re opting for a 3 bank charger with a 24V trolling motor.  Unless you don’t feel you be running you big motor enough to keep that battery up as well?
    • I did buy an Minnkota Ulterra, thanks for the recommendations. I had a bunch of Cabela"s bucks saved up, which helped. Now i need to get an onboard battery charger. Where do you guys mount these things in your boat? The manufacturer I am looking at {Noco genius) says tht their 3-bank charger will run at 160 degrees, seems like a lot of heat in an enclosed compartment? Thanks for any input on this.
    • You're very lucky a troop of Sea Monkey's didn't carry you away.
    • Wasn't terrible at a state park beach. Antelope island maybe.  I wouldn't recommend it as a beach destination tho.  Figured I was there, I'm getting in it.
