15th annual Cats Incredible Catfish Tournament.

The Cats Incredible Catfish Tournament already one-third full & filling up fast!

Less than a week after entry forms became available, the 15th annual Cats Incredible Catfish Tournament already is one-third full.

As of Thursday, the East Grand Forks Chamber of Commerce had received 50 entries. The Aug. 10-11 tournament is limited to 150 two-person teams, with entry on a first-come, first-served basis.

In recent years, the tournament has filled up several months before the actual competition. (ACT FAST IF YOU WISH TO GET IN)

The Cats on the Red Classic III

Organizers of a Manitoba catfish tournament that was discontinued in 2000 have resurrected the event, and are planning another competition this summer.

The Cats on the Red Classic III is scheduled for Aug. 17-18 on the Red River near Lockport, Man. - the week after the East Grand Forks tournament. The event will be headquartered out of "Cats on the Red Resort" in Lockport.

According to Dan Sernyk of Winnipeg, one of the event's organizers, the tournament will be run a little differently than previous competitions. Instead of total weight, Sernyk said, tournament winners will be based on total length. Teams can measure six catfish each day.

Manitoba regulations require the immediate release of all catfish 24 inches or longer.

In previous Cats on the Red tournaments, organizers hired officials to weigh in fish on the water. That represented a considerable expense, Sernyk said.

Under the new format, Sernyk said, each two-person team has to provide a third member, who will be assigned to a different boat as a judge during the tournament.

Teams that don't provide a third person will have to pay an additional $50 to cover the cost of hiring a judge, Sernyk said.

Entry fee is $175 (U.S. funds) or $250 Canadian.

For more information, contact Sernyk at [email protected], or Stu McKay of Cats on the Red at (204) 757-9876.

A great time folks!
