Katman
I was wondering if anyone ever used this setup? I came from California so I've got an old saltwater 8 feet Penn power stick with a Shimano 3500 baitrunner reel. I've had this setup for probably 10 years now. Seem to work great for tuna and ocean fishing but I've never used it for cats. Anyone use any similar or the same rod or reels? I'd think they be pretty good for cats. Mr Special
Sounds like it would work. I figure if it could handle tuna, it should handle most cats as well. Some of the FMer's I know are using saltwater rods. I know that reel is a good reel. What action is the rod and what's it made of?
Katman
Its a heavy action but I'm not sure of the material used. I'll have to take a look when I get home from work. Seems like a good bet to use. I just thought it might be a bit too stiff for cats. But then again...you'll never know until you try.
Wiskers
It is always nice to have a heavy rod as long as the tip has some soft action incase you use circle hooks. When the cats are agressive and are smashing the baits and you keep them locked in, you will have no trouble with a heavy action rod. It is when they are playing with the baits and nibbling, when you will loose their interest with out a light action tip. Even if the clicker is soft, that heavy rod is tough.
