0 169Sportsman
Most of the rods that I receive here are just in long cardboard boxes packed with lots of newspaper. Some though are shipped in solid cardboard like rod tubes, but I do know that US Mail charges extra to ship in these tubes. I think US Mail is probably going to be the cheapest but I'm not sure. Hope this helps.Tom
0 Northlander
Go with a cardboard tube and foam peanuts. Lighter and cheaper. Ive used the post office and was happy.
0 Valv
No matter what carrier you use, be sure you add insurance to package, just in case.Fedex and UPS have it included in price.------------------Val Vignatiwww.kvesurplus.com[email protected]
0 uffdapete
From 13 yrs. experience - go with UPS or Fed Ex. UPS will be least expensive. Fed Ex is easiest to work with. Tracking is simple and insurance to $100 is included. A little tip - shipping to a business address, if you can do that, will be less expensive than shipping to residential.Filing a claim is quite simple with either.Any of that is extra with the postal service and then it's still not as reliable. 0 Fish-n-Freak
If you have a carpet/flooring store in your area, they will have the empty cardboard tubes from carpet. I have shipped many rods in these tubes. They are so rigid you could stand on them and it takes a saw to cut them to length.Best way to package a rod -- without a doubt! I will cut the tube about 6 inches longer than the rod, put the rod inside, wrapped in bubble wrap, fill the tube with peanuts and then put a block of wood into each end and put some drywall screws in to hold them tight. Then the person who gets it, just removes a few screws and the pole will slide right out.Good Luck!Steve
0 scalescratcher
In a pinch you can also use a section of pvc tubing from the local home improvement store. Will definately take any abuse dished out during transit.
0 husker4u9899
Carpet tubes are fine, however, would suggest you go to a local Upholstery Shop or fabric store. The tubes fabric is rolled on is a much smaller diameter and more closley fits the size of a rod. My wife ran a Upholstery business for years and I would guess we gave local tackle shops hundreds of the tubes over the years for mailing rods.
