Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone,

I am making a digital scrap book for Jon Fenner and I would love to include each and everyone of of you in it. If you would like to be a part of this please email me your name and a picture, if possible (may be one with you and your biggest fish) and I will include it in the scrap book. I know Jon would love to see everyone who supported him.

This scrap book, once completed I will burn to DVD and give to Jon. The pictures and video will include pictures of him with his old fish house all the way through each and ever person who helped him out. I know it will take some time to put together, I have already started, but in the end it will be priceless.

[email protected]

Again, I would like to thank all of you for your support!

Heidi Buegler (Jon Fenner's older sister)

Did not know if you guys saw this story about Jon in the Star Tribune....

Demise of an icy sanctuary brings on a spell of warmth

On Jan. 25, Jon Fenner arrived at the spot on Chisago Lake where his sanctuary, a fishing house, was supposed to be. There was nothing, except ice and charred debris.

Doug Grow, Star Tribune

On Jan. 25, Jon Fenner arrived at the spot on Chisago Lake where his sanctuary, a fishing house, was supposed to be. There was nothing, except ice and charred debris.

"I couldn't believe what I was seeing," Fenner said. "Why would somebody do something like this?"

Fenner, 25, has been trying to overcome more than his share of setbacks caused by three strokes he suffered three years ago.

"Hit like a hammer," said Fenner of the strokes. He went through six months of treatment and therapy at the Mayo Clinic.

In early January, a symbol of his comeback appeared on the lake. The fish house that he and his father, Tom, built was a place he could go and be alone with his thoughts. Ice fishing, with specially designed equipment that helps him overcome his inability to use his left hand, was a statement of his hard-earned independence.

In mid-January, Jon spent four days and three nights there. No radio, no TV, no alcohol. Just a cell phone and some crappies.

"Don't need a radio," he said, laughing. "My dad's calling me all the time."

But on Jan. 25, the house was gone. Someone had torched it.

Chisago County authorities were called. Friends of Jon also called the news department at KSTP-TV.

And that's when the good started overcoming the bad.

The station aired this classic Minnesota story last Sunday. The news story also mentioned that Jon's father was offering a $500 reward to anyone who could help authorities find the torchers.

Ice fishing. Overcoming adversity. Bad guys. A reward.

The Fenners' phone started ringing almost immediately. A St. Paul couple donated $1,000 to the reward fund and gave another $1,000 to Jon to rebuild. The HSOforum Fishingminnesota.com started a fund, and within a day more than $3,000 was raised for Jon. Meanwhile, Montevideo-based Ice Cast Fish Houses donated a $4,000 fish house and other companies -- MarCum Technologies, FishinFreaks.com, Stone Legacy, (Contact US Regarding This Word).com and Cabela's -- all were helping replace his gear.

"I didn't know there were so many nice people," said Jon.

The tips stemming from the publicity are leading to sweet justice. One man has been charged in the fish house caper. Another man is expected to be charged, and the net is widening for the Chisago County Sheriff's Office.

Investigators tracking down the arsonists have come upon loot stolen from a number fish houses and summer cabins. As many as four -- perhaps more -- men might end up facing various charges stemming from the fish house investigation.

Why was Jon's fish house burned?

Apparently, it was nothing personal. Just stupid.

"I'm told they said they thought it was too nice," said Jon's father.

Jon and some friends were to put his new fish house on the lake Saturday. He hopes to spend a few days there, fishing and thinking sweet thoughts of good people.

    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
    • Chef boyardee pizza from the box!
