Fish Forever
I have a 4"x8" Shore master fish house with a plastic floor. When it gets wet it is very slippery. Has anyone ever glued carpet to the plastic floor. Are there any concerns about rotting, smelling, or replacing year after year. Any advice would be great. thanks. icehousebob
Carpet gets wet and will mold and get smelly. A better solution is the non-skid stick-ons that are used in bathtubs and showers. There are also the non-skid strips that are put on stairways.
kslipsinker
I agree, don't do carpet. My buddy had a hunk of carpet in his portable and it really started to smell bad about half way through the season. Use grip tape instead.
tashit
My uncle has a 6x8 Shoremaster and he has carpet in his. He used snaps to connect the carpet to the plastic so he can take it out and clean it and let it dry if it's too wet. He's had it for 4 or 5 years now and I've never noticed any smell. The carpet is definitely better than the plastic.
jigginjerk
I second the carpet. I have a 5600 clam and I have had carpet on the floor for about 6 years and there is no smell that i can tell. Just use some rubber back indoor-outdoor carpet. I just screwed it down to the ribs with big headed screws.I also bring it in the shop occasionally and dry it out. The non skid strips sounds good to, but the carpet is a little quieter.
minneman
I like the carpet, when done, I take it out, lay it on the shop floor (heated) and they are dry in the morning, its quiet, and warm.
Captain B.R.K
I'm glad this thread came up because I just won a new fish house and am looking to add something on the floors. Carpet won't work for me because it will set out in the garage and never dry. But what about........outdoor carpet- will that get that musty smell when it gets wet?!? 30 inch eyes
this might work instead of carpet. I use anti fatigue mats for garage floors, found at automotive stores. mine are a charcole color and connect together like a puzzle. they don't soak up water and don't slip even on glare ice. (just another option) also you can take them out when you get home and let the plastic floor dry out. They are about 18" x 18" and are about a half inch thick. woodyjdh
I read your post and got to thinking, (which can be hazardous) what about using a liquid bedliner product. I can't think of the names of them offhand. (The stuff you roll onto the floor of your pickup box) I am not sure how it would react to plastic, something you may want to contact the manufacturer about before purchasing or using. CrappieJohn
Menards sells an entry carpet , 3'+5' I think, that is rubber bottomed with a short carpet pile on top. $10. and they are handy in many places other than inside the door.
Captain B.R.K
That's twice now for that carpet from Menards. Humm... No problems with smelling moldy when it sits in water or when it dries in the trap?? Again, I don't have a place to dry it (I'm not pulling it into my apartment after every use) as it will sit in my trap & in the garage all winter long. My garage is not heated either.
