HOW TO WORK SCRAPE LINE?

FISH AWAY

Recommended Posts

I have a scrape line running along a strip of woods with a corn field on the otherside. I have found three fresh scrapes along here and was wondering how a guy would work this? With scents Without, and so on?

Fish Away - have you hunted them yet? Be careful of those field edge scrapes as they tend to be worked at night - certainly not always though. As far as scent, maybe some tarsal gland or buck urine.

I have also learned that you really have to study the scrape. When you find a scrape whether it be fresh or not, the overhanging branch is usually more important than the scrape itself. If you see a scrape without an overhanging branch than it is probably just a scrape that the buck has no intention of returning to it. But if it has a branch, definetely keep it fresh to keep the buck interested. The day drippers may also help make your job easier but be careful using it on public land. Some guys swear by these daydrippers in terms of getting that deer coming back during the day to intercept the doe. Good Luck!!

Scrapes can be deceiving, lots of scrapes are made and never checked again, more or less the buck getting worked up about the upcoming rut. If you can find one that has been getting worked daily, then you have something. Just simply setting up on a scrape can be a big waste of time. More than one in an area can be good, size of the scrape also has some importance. Also the location of the scrape in relationship how the does use the area. If the scrape is in an area that does frequent, it's more likely it will get checked more often as hot does mark it. If you find a hot one, set up on it right away, as they lose importance on a bucks priority list fast.

Bear in mind also we are geting to the time where maybe more of our focus should be on hunting where the does are. Travel corridors, bottlenecks and the such.

Good luck
