ryguy83
Hey guys. I'm a college student with some time to get out and hunt. Just wondering where some ponds might be to try out. Getting a canoe this weekend. Any info would be great. I tried some state land just north of town off of 53, the Canosia WMA. Thanks.
Papa Woodie
How was the last outing? I also am a local college guy looking to get out and do some shooting...ducks/geese anything. If you Want to scout/hunt this weekend, email me.[email protected]I, however, am in the same boat as you, in desperate need of a lead on where to go/look. OUTDOORNUT
With a canoe I'd stick to the back waters of the popular lakes. Rice, Fish, Island, etc. There is some ducks and gesse to be had off of Rice. If I were going by canoe I'd try and beat the crowd and row out to the island. Winds direction will tell you what side you want to be on, but it isn't a far paddle from the landing and is pretty protected. While Duluth isn't the Mecca for duck hunting, there is a few spots to hit. If you don't mind a small drive there is some better spots to the West during the freeze up. Papa Woodie
How far west are we talking? For good hunting, an hour drive isn't much. Are you thinking of a WMA?
OUTDOORNUT
drop me an email and we can talk about the spots to the West. (about a hour) <[email protected]>I'm departing for duck hunting here soon, so if I don't get your mail today, I'll try and get back to you asap. Not to worry though, it isn't the best until the last big freeze up, which is usually around the end of Oct. early Nov.

ewirz
Just another thought. There are quite a few small rice lakes up the shore around Isabella (if you don't mind the drive). Most are small lakes with canoe access and there usually isn't very many people if any. Ducks early and late in the season.ERW
