Perm fish houses

FI Guide

Recommended Posts

I am looking to buy a new perm fish house this year with the drop down trailer. Any of you guys know some of the brands that I can go and check out. Also I would prefer for the house not to have anything inside so that I can furnish it myself. Any ifo is appreciated.

there are quite a few of manufacturers of what you are looking for preformance engineering, ice castels, and also those that are l;isted on this site as sponsers

the thing that i do not like about ice castels is the way they do there roof for what they get for price you would think theyt could be a bit neater than hammering the edge around the top down to the sides and nailing it tacky tacky

but they will make what you want to i think you need to have a floor plan in mind when you are looking for a good shack

make sure to get the upgrade windows better door and a well insulated floor <<<<< most important<<<<<

sky is the limit on cost and toys

Which ever house you decide on, make sure they will handle being pulled down the road. Some makes tend to bend and the wheels will actually tip in at the top. Ice Castle has a reputation of being a light house but also a little weak in the frame area. Check around. There is a real neat portable available called Dakota Litehouse. They are their own trailer, they float, hold up 900 pounds while floating, can be used as a trailer to haul your ATV, and fold up. Take a look.

Last year my buddy and I bought a 12X7 Ice Castle. We got the stripped down model and we built a couple of bunks and put in some shelves and a vanity to hold a stove. We kept it on LOW and it worked out OK. If I were to buy another one would get the V-front with the built in stove and the cabinets with the door up front. I might even go with a 14 footer so there would be room for the nighbors who visit frequently. I would also opt for a commercial made bottom bunk that would fold up. You didn't say if you were going to use it as a sleeper, but the idea takes hold very fast once you start using it. The Ice Castle is a quality brand. We didn't have one thing break or find any defect in workmanship. The lights are bright, it is well insulated, and we never had to set the heater higher than the lowest setting and we went through some sub-zero and windy weekends. You can order these houses configured any way that you like.

Do a search for Fish House Supply. I looked at alot of frames last year and when I stopped in there, shopping was over. I bought a 16' Tundra with 6000# suspension. It is all square tubing, heavy-duty 15" radials, theft proof removable tounge and they also have the auto-brake winches with straps (very safe even my kids crank it up). My fish house weighs around 3500# and sometimes a 4-wheeler in the back. I have pulled it at times 75-80 mph when I went up to Red Lake last year and it traveled strait as an arrow. I would recomend checking them out, they cost more then the angle iron type frames but its money well spent.

Animal I like what you said. I have been leaning toward Ice Castle but I didnt think they made a stripped down version. On Friday I am going to stop into the dealer that is near to my house and talk to the guy. The last time I went in there they closed half hour early so I didnt get to talk to anyone. For all you guys thanks for the good info.

check out the ice castle houses @ Milica Unclaimed Freight

Just bought a 18 footer from there yesterday. They worked with me to make sure I got exactly what I wanted and they have the best prices you'll find on Ice Castles. They have many in stock to look at too if you need help deciding. They have a HSOforum too.

I have a king crow and when I was shopping around looked at many of the others. Cant really go wrong with any of the many choices out there. The make the king crows in kingston mn. Do a search and you'll find the HSOforum. They are more expensive but well worth the little extra money.

FI Guide-

Can you wait to for the Ice Fishing Show at the Rivercentre this fall/early winter??

There are plenty of wheel houses on display there, usually some good deals also. That is probably going to be the best place to get a side by side comparison of the various manufacturer's houses.

I'm not a real big fan of the Ice Castle houses. I don't like the interior layouts. I've seen some that I've wondered how in the world you would auger out the holes with where they are placed. But that is just my opinion.

Check out a number of them and start to make comparisons. Efficient use of the interior space is VERY, VERY important to me.

Hey guys. I'm also looking to buy a perm fish house. Well I guess not a fish house but a spear house. I've looked at the King Crow, Ice Castle, and Road King. I don't know if one is any better then the other or not? Does anyone know about the quality of the Ice Pro fish houses? They also look nice. Does anyone have a perm spear house that they bought from a manufacturer? Thanks for any help.
