Northwest Angle - Musky

Recommended Posts

I got back Sunday after a week on Lake of the Woods. There were 5 people in our group. The largest fish caught was a 41" fish. However, some big fish were caught by others at the resort on the 4th and 5th. A 50" and a 52". I saw the digital pictures. We caught a total of 8 fish. Saw a bunch but they were not rolling yet. The largest fish we saw was a 48" who followed and sat at the boat long enough for everyone to start drooling. We had a lot of short strikes on the buck tails - mostly black and silver. The guide we hired for the first 4 days felt that the water was still a bit cold for them. But by Friday the water was up to 80 degrees on teh graph in some of the back bays. Most of our fish came out of the weeds and weed edges. Not much on the rock reefs yet. We threw a lot of bucktails and had steady action on topwater - mostly topraiders. We stayed at Monument Bay Lodge and as we were leaving all the big guns were coming in for the annual Musky School - Spence Petros, Crash Mullins et al. I have a feeling they are going to hit it just right. My father-in-law will have a report from them at the end of the week. It should be interesting to hear how they did. While we were there, we saw Bob Messikomer sitting on a reef for hours filming an episode. Thanks again for the advice before the trip. I appreciate it guys. Take care.
