Rod Wraps - Do you use them?

I've seen a lot of people talk about using rod wraps. I've heard many people use them to color-code their rods for what lb test the line is on that rod etc. Do any of you use them & do they help or aren't they worth it ??? If you do use them, does the extra sponge of the wrap reduce the sensitivity of your rod?

Thanks,

I love them. I didn't notice any dropoff in sensitivity. The cons were that if you change reels, or want to take the reel off to respool it or whatever, then you have to take the Rod Wrap off first. Also on rainy days, it would be a little more slick than cork. They dry pretty quick though. It's hard to find locally, but I ordered a bunch and change them out every year. I especially like them on spinning rods, since your hand is over that section of the reel seat and sometimes that's not comfortable. The color coding is a nice little bonus if you have lots of rods in the boat. Give them a shot, in most cases, I think you'll like them.

The rod wraps that they sell in fishing magazines are way over-priced....go and get tennis raquet grips....you can get 3 of them for about $3-$4....and they basically are the same thing....i find that in the spring they actually help keep your hands warmer, and when they are wet, they are not slick....they actually make the grip a lot better...i only wrap the area that has cork, i do not go over the reel seat...this allows me to take off the reel and change them, plus it is a waste of wrap material...you can find these at all types of sports stores and even the larger chains that sell everything under the sun...plus the price can't be beat!!!

I've seen them too (partly because I've fished with HT grin.gif) but they look great. As HT said, they could get slick if they get wet (kinda like a golf club wrap/tape). If you are really concerned about color coordinating between line size, you may want to take the wrap and just put it around the butt of the rod. I personally don't see the line thing being a real issue, I would use the wraps for comfort more than anything. When you spool up and get ready for an outing, I usually rig my rods with corresponding lures for that type of rod/reel/line and I'm more concerned about which rod is my spinnerbait rod and which is my crank rod than line size because I'll already have matched my line size to my rod style.

If you get some of those wraps let us know how you like them. Just don't get the bright PINK ones like HT does. tongue.gif LOL J/K!

No problem ... I don't mind giving people a hard time once in awhile myself.

I might have to try a few rod wraps. It doesn't sound like there's much of an investment so to give them a try shouldn't hurt anything.
