New State Record Walleye?

Recommended Posts

Well... I got an email about the walleye being from Mille Lacs, but the actual truth is that a Priest caught the walleye on Tobin Lake in northern Saskatchewan, it's a new Saskatchewan province record.

Come to think about it, a person can hardly believe anything you read in an email anymore!! HA!!

I hope this link works, but here's where it's at:

Since it's been caught on Tobin Lake, I have personally heard stories linking it to Lake of the Woods, Mille Lacs, Waubay area, Devils Lake, and the Red River. Simply amazing how something black and white can turn into a long winding talk story.

Last night, a buddy called and told me it was caught on Reetz. 10 mins later another guy stops by my shack and told me it was caught on Waubay. Today, I swung by the Gas station/bait shop and the owner told me he heard it also.

I have heard so many stories, I thought maybe someone on this board would know. As of right now, I am calling it spam. If it were true, it would be all over the news.

I just got off the phone with the GF&P Wildlife Division in Webster. They have heard nothing of this. If there was state record caught it would of had to been verified by a state biologist.

As for the 18 pounder it was caught in Tobin, not Mille Lacs or Lake of the Woods.

I just thought I would post a little info regaurding the biggest walleye I have heard of this winter. I was talking to the local comercial fisherman who have nets out across eastern SD and was asking them if they ever see any potential records.

the biggest one they have gotten in few years was just last month. It was a 14lb, 32+" walleye that was witnessed by the conservation officer. The fish was released back into Lake Traverse unharmed! There are pictures of the beauty that I can't wait to see.

Actually, I can't wait to see me holding here this spring! grin.gif

Just a little trivea for you all!
