Ed Carlson
Lots of great recommendations already. I also have a couple you may wish to check out.On the commercial front the Frabill Sen-Sive XL line is a winner. They have rods and combo's ranging in action from Micro-Lite up to a firm Medium Heavy that are very well built and priced right. The 28" to 40" rods are great for serious walleye jigging. The new 40" model is also a good option for cats and pike on open ice.If you wish a custom built rod I highly recommend you chat with Rod Engel of "Rods by Engel". He builds more then rods, they are things of buity. If you wish a few extra whistles and bells to dress up a special rod, he is the man to get it just right. I have a few of his rods and cherish them highly. Very well built and function is job #1. They are designed from the blank up to your specs and for the desired results. The rod cost is very reasonable for the quality you get!"Rods by Engel"205 Thompson Ave.Fisher, MN 56723218-891-4415[email protected]
slick814
I saw one at Sportsman's Warehouse called the "Black Ice Series".. I think it's either HT or Shakespeare. I'll be picking one up for this season. Seems to have the right stiffness & sensitivity, but less $$ than the higher end ones like Thorne Bros., St. Croix, etc.... Another thing I like about them is that they've got the reel seat set up like a regular spinning rod, not tape on like a lot of rods.
Sportland_Bait
If you want the best check out Thorne Brothers. They have had the best ice rods for years but there are many great options out there. I prefer a nice medium graphite blank in the 28" size.Jason Erlandson
