goose89
can anyone clarify this:if someone has gotten a dwi in the states in the last 5 yrs, does that make someone "criminally admissable" in ontario?? I.E. that person cannot enter ontario without provding several legal documents, letters of reference and even an FBI criminal record check. i know this has been brought up before in other sites, but never clearly answered. any solid info or experieces would be appreciated. thanks in advance.goose
mthunter
If it was with in the last 5 years get your paper work started yesterday also if the dui was a result of an accident with injuries or death it makes it twice as hard as it is if the dui was the result of just getting pulled over. The temporary resident certificate is only good for 1 year and must renewed every year at the cost of around $60 but is usually easier to get. A certificate of rehabilitation is a permanent document and doesn't require renewing but can take up to a year to get through all the red tape and will cost you about $150 if the 1 dui is all thats on your record. You can call the Canadian consualte office in Detroit for more info, their office in Minneapolis doesn't handle these issues. The phone number is Tel: (313) 567-2085.Here is a HSOforum also http://www.detroit.gc.caFor information and applications, please visit the HSOforum for Citizenship & Immigration Canada: http://www.cic.gc.ca I have another page of info but it is in adobe format, if you want that too leave your email address and I will forward it to you.If you had a dui ten or more years ago and it was the result of just being pulled over then you are deemed rehabilitated and no paper work is needed. Sabaskong
goose89, I just got my "Letter of Rehabilitaion" from a DUI in 1996. Apply to the Department of Immigration. There is a form that must be filled out describing the offense and you must also write a brief description of what happened and also state why you feel your rehabilitated. They also called the local court administrator to confirm what happened. It costs $154.00 to apply and that is nonrefundable if your denied. I think it may be more difficult for an offense of less than 5 years compared to an offense between 5 and 10 years old but I'm not positive on that. Any questions just ask. Good Luck, Stiffy
