Fishing on Wiskey II
6/18/03 Went out with Dick Kraft and Mike Stermer on Mike's boat. Hit the water by 9:00 and went out to 140 FOW. Very slow at first. We were trolling deeper, somehow eventually ended up at 235 FOW (I was not at the helm so I am not sure of the progression that led us to that depth). Anyway, the cohos were all on yellow birds, orange dodger and green, blue fly - longer ones. Green produced zip. Most of our action was in 200 FOW + Hooked 7 landed 4. All nice ones about 5 lbs or so. The highlight was the first fish caught - 35 inch, 22 lb Lake Trout. White prism doger and white fly with green beads on down rigger 50 feet down. I have been running slider spoons on the down rigger lines and they are seeing some action. Today we lost what was either a GREAT coho or a nice steel head. Silver flutter spoons on 3 ft of line free to roam to their own depth on the lines fished on the down riggers. Back to Waukegan by 3:45 PM We fished from WI state line southward.
