Might_B_A_Pike
Question: what generally happens to weeds in the mid-winter in MN(more metro area)? I know it depends on water clarity, snow cover and such. But what pattern does the weeds start to go from green to brown, does it start shallow and go deep, or the other way around. What depth would you start looking for fish producing weeds. I am thinking about targeting some gills in the weeds this weekend. Lake is pretty clear. Da Biggin
It has been my experience to see weeds begin to receed around this time of year from deeper to shallower. The tell tale signs I've noticed would obviously be the color change of the weeds themselves, but the water clarity seems to get a bit murkier as well. So when I'm fishing weeds as my primary structure I try to find the greenest foliage in the clearest water and that tends to produce the best. I am assuming that as the weeds are dying off they are consuming oxygen fish would need rather than creating it. I hope this is of some kind of help. Good luck!
