BFL

so, i am gonna fish a couple BFL's this year(co-angler) because i like the idea of a higher stakes tourney for weekend anglers. i fished my first one last summer and found a lot more wrapped boats, and sponsered anglers than i expected. i fished with one of these guys and found that most of them are part time guides looking to suplement income and compete. i am fine with that, but on facebook the other day, i found out that Marty Stone is gonna fish 9 BFL's this year. former elite series pro Marty Stone in competeing in 9 tournaments designed for weekend anglers. i am all for competing against top competion, but it would be nice if FLW had a tournament winnings maximum for the BFL events. still a Marty Stone fan, but if i were the guy putting my $300 in the pot to fish out of a 15 year old bass boat i might be upset to see him in the same feild.

Somewhat agree. But there is a reason Marty didn't make it in the Elites or the FLW tour. You can say economy all you want, but if you are good, you can make it, and he had the PR skills to make it, but for the last how many years, never did.

On the other side. I would love the chance to say "yep, finished higher than Marty Stone"

There might be a reason he is tooling around in a boat and asking other guys what THEY are catching them on during "Major League Fishing" rather than having somebody come up to him and ask what HE is catching them on. Don't p

BLFs are a qualifying event for bigger circuits and if you didnt know Marty was out of the game for a couple years and easing back in. This is like a Bassmaster open that is open to whoever wants to fish and pay, a lot of Elite series anglers fish those. A lot of FLW pros fish the smaller tournaments as well. Its still an FLW event. This isn't your average small tournament circuit and is fished by a lot of full time proffesionals. I guess your signing up for it. These guys arent coming to your tuesday night leagues and taking your money.

    • Yeah it was a beatdown
    • Your kid needs to stay with him!👍
    • My kid was eating in Beverly Hills and ran into this guy. Talked to him a bit and wished him luck in the game tonight.
    • 🤔as a recovering machinist!🤣🤣that must make me a recovering welder!
    • As a recovering machinist, I can appreciate that.  If the spec is 0.001 - 0.0015, then clearly the correct measurement is 0.00125, duh…
    • I just figured that it is easy enough to just get a 3 bank so when the boat is not in use I can keep all 3 batteries charged. I have not bough a charger yet, maybe I will give it some more thought. Edit: After thinking this over, with the size, weight, and heat output of the charger (as well as the cost) I think it makes sense to just buy a 2 bank charger, I have a smaller charger i can use on the starting battery when the boat is sitting at home. Forgive me, for i am a retired engineer and I have to obsess over everything...
    • Congrats on the motor!  I think you’ll like it.   I can’t say much on the charger location but I’ve seen them under the lid in back compartments and under center rod lockers.  160 degrees is more than I expected to hear.   Curious why you’re opting for a 3 bank charger with a 24V trolling motor.  Unless you don’t feel you be running you big motor enough to keep that battery up as well?
    • I did buy an Minnkota Ulterra, thanks for the recommendations. I had a bunch of Cabela"s bucks saved up, which helped. Now i need to get an onboard battery charger. Where do you guys mount these things in your boat? The manufacturer I am looking at {Noco genius) says tht their 3-bank charger will run at 160 degrees, seems like a lot of heat in an enclosed compartment? Thanks for any input on this.
    • You're very lucky a troop of Sea Monkey's didn't carry you away.
