LindellProStaf
I am going to replace my water pump on my 60 HP Merc. It is about a 1997. The water stream is weak and when I tried to troll crankbaits last summer it would sound the hot alarm. That is the only time it gets hot, when trolling. So what is the correct way to flush the system. I have always seen the plug that says flush on lower units. (looks like oil drain plug) What is the purpose of that? I replaced the water pump impeller 2 years ago and it didn't seem to make much of a difference in the stream coming out. I would appreciate any pointers. Loon
That plug is for flushing the coolant passages of salt water...non-issue in Minnesota...The only "flushing" that I would associate with an impeller replacement would be compressed air through all passages to clear any debris or old pieces of rubber from a badly worn impeller. LindellProStaf
Thanks Loon. I will blow it out with air and see what happens. Then I will install new impeller.
