Black Bear
I have a check engine light on a 2004 Silverado. The truck is no longer under warranty. What would you do? Go to Napa or a Repair Facility or a dealer? Will NAPA run the code for free? Thank you!

They typically scan it for you but if they are busy you can "check it out" by giving them your license, but I just give them my whole wallet. Let us know what the code is! OnAFly
Don't go to Napa. They'll ask for the deed to your house.
Black Bear
Thanks for the responses. Came back with a P0449 code. I palyed with the gas cap. I believe it is:Probable Causes 1- Purge or vent solenoids defective 2- Check connevtor and wiring 3- Fuel saturated vapor canister 4- Failed EVAP vent solenoid Any ideas on where to go first?Take care.......Thinking Tundra! pureinsanity
I think this is a common GM code.Solenoid Valve is most likely stuck open.
Jeremy airjer W
Sounds like a vent solenoid to me as well. It is located under the vehicle. Find the charcoal canister. There will be a large diameter hose coming out of it. Follow that to the vent solenoid. Unplug the solenoid. With the key on there should be power on one of the pins. If there is remove the solenoid. Supply power and ground and listen for it to click. If it doesn't replace it. If it does you probably bumped it enough to get it to work again when you removed it. If there is no power on the orange wire check the 4WS fuse in the under hood fuse block. If it is blown replace the vent solenoid and the fuse.
