want to use one transducer for lowrance 510 and 522

jonboy

Question

wondering if it's possible to hook up my 510 and 522 so they use just one transducer. Now they are side by side on the transom and cause alot of interference. Id like to view map info on the 522 while viewing fish and depth on the 510. I've thought about just unhooking the transducer cord from the 522 but I like to spin the 522 towards the front when running the trolling motor and would like to see the split screen with depth and map.

first of all does your trolling motor have universal sonar? if not just buy a transducer that clamps to the trolling motor and move the 522 to the bow. when you are up in the bow fishing turn off the 510. only run the 510 when when you are not running the 522 unless you try to adjust the ping speed of each unit and the sensitivy of each unit. read your owners manual and it will tell you how to adjust the settings. if you use the 510 only for depth and locating fish and the 522 for the gps then like you said just unplug the ducer from the 522 when it is on the dash by the 510. as for the use of one ducer with two units contact lowrance and they my have a cable or switch where you can do this. I know HB does so lowrance should also. the other thing I just thought of is could you link the two units together with a ethernet cable and then run only one ducer plus by linking I believe you could see the map on the 510 but I may be wrong on that since I only own a 510 and not a 522. I guess that would depend on how old the units are. The other more expensive option would be to get a HB to replace the 522 at the dash and move that to the bow. doing this would give you GPS at both spots.

youre right I think I'll just unplug the ducer from the 522

You don't even need to unplug the transducer -- just go into the sonar options menu and check the option for Stop Chart. That will stop the sonar, will stop the interference, will let you still use your 522 for mapping, and you'll still have the transducer connected so you can use it if/when needed.

    • My kid was eating in Beverly Hills and ran into this guy. Talked to him a bit and wished him luck in the game tonight.

    • As a recovering machinist, I can appreciate that.  If the spec is 0.001 - 0.0015, then clearly the correct measurement is 0.00125, duh…
    • I just figured that it is easy enough to just get a 3 bank so when the boat is not in use I can keep all 3 batteries charged. I have not bough a charger yet, maybe I will give it some more thought. Edit: After thinking this over, with the size, weight, and heat output of the charger (as well as the cost) I think it makes sense to just buy a 2 bank charger, I have a smaller charger i can use on the starting battery when the boat is sitting at home. Forgive me, for i am a retired engineer and I have to obsess over everything...
    • Congrats on the motor!  I think you’ll like it.   I can’t say much on the charger location but I’ve seen them under the lid in back compartments and under center rod lockers.  160 degrees is more than I expected to hear.   Curious why you’re opting for a 3 bank charger with a 24V trolling motor.  Unless you don’t feel you be running you big motor enough to keep that battery up as well?
    • I did buy an Minnkota Ulterra, thanks for the recommendations. I had a bunch of Cabela"s bucks saved up, which helped. Now i need to get an onboard battery charger. Where do you guys mount these things in your boat? The manufacturer I am looking at {Noco genius) says tht their 3-bank charger will run at 160 degrees, seems like a lot of heat in an enclosed compartment? Thanks for any input on this.
    • You're very lucky a troop of Sea Monkey's didn't carry you away.
    • Wasn't terrible at a state park beach. Antelope island maybe.  I wouldn't recommend it as a beach destination tho.  Figured I was there, I'm getting in it.
