Outpost Camp

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

Hoping someone can help me out. I have a group of 8 guys that is looking for a place to go fishing this year. A little of our criteria:

- Late May

- We would like to be within 2 hours of the border at either Baudette, Rainy River or Pigeon River.

- No flying. Last year we went with an outfitter that boated us in, it worked out great but he is booked for when we would like to go.

- Boats provided.

- Secluded, meaning we don't want the "american plan" where they cook our meals and such. We like to be on our own.

Any help you guys could give me would be great. The guy that was planning our trip screwed up and did not reserve our spot and now we are scrambling. Thanks,

Chad

Forest Lodge, on Caribou Lake, 5 miles outside of Armstrong. It might be a few more miles than you're looking for, but can't say enough about these people. Great fishing for Walleyes, Lake Trout, Northerns. Very well kept facility, nice camp boats (or you can bring your own) Huge lake for exploring, or you can fish 5 minutes from camp. I know they're running some specials for various times of year. My buddies been up there 6-8 times, We're going back again in early June.

Two obvious choices: Pipestone-Clearwater chain or the Lower Manitou. Gateway North (Superbee on this site) has a good cabin on Pipestone and a great boat. don't know if they were have enough boats for 8 guys. There are other lodges on the Clearwater chain with outpost cabins, Clearwater Lodge, Ross's and probably others. There's also a fly-out outfit called Pipestone (something) that has a boat-in cabin on Slender Lake. Camp Manitou (also on this site) has a boat-in outpost cabin on the Lower Manitou. He also has housekeeping cabins at the lodge, as does Barker Bay. Lake of the Woods has some boat-in cabins, but they can be pricey (Crow Rock Lodge, for instance). Might be a problem getting the at least three boats you would need, if not four. I like boat-ins alot and Pipestone is my favorite, though I'm not a walleye fisherman. I'm hitting the Lower Manitou for the first time this year. Most of the other boat-ins that I have heard of are farther than 2 hours away I think (like Lac Seul). Good luck.

We would be appy to help you with a trip, but our first opening on our Pipestone outpost cabin is early July if you are wanting to fish walleyes. We can definately accommodate your group with boats/cabin/etc and some great fishing. Let us know if we can help.

Hey cm1977,

We might be able to help you out, we have an island resort and outpost on Lower Manitou Lake along with an outpost on Pipestone Lake. You can view our HSOforum at www.campmanitoufishing.com or you can just email me at [email protected] and we can discuss some options we can provide for you.

cm1977,

We have a few openings the end of May, depending on the dates either at the main camp or at the Outpost cabin, we also do have rental boats available and transportation from Esox landing.

If you go with Superbee on Pipestone, you won't be disappointed! Lucas and Nicole do an excellent job and are very nice people! I have not been to their Pipestone cabin, but I plan to at some point. I have stayed with them on Off Lake. July is an excellent time for walleye fishing in Canada.

Be sure to check out Thunderhook Fly-Ins and The Smoothrock Camp in the Wabakimi Provincial Park. They normally fly out of Armstrong, Ontario but now do pickups regularly in Crane Lake, MN. There is no hassle at the border and is only a 4 hour drive from MPLS.
