tica cetus reel sticker on box says contains lead?????

Where is the lead. It says contaings chemical known to cause birth defects. Is this lead? Why?? Any info would be great for a piece of mind. Thanks

I have seen this on many reels and other fishing lures. I wouldnt worry about it. People have been using fishing reels forever and I havent heard of anyone dieing from it.

Lead is just about everywhere, and just about any plastic has trace amounts of lead. With California's strict laws, you have to state that your product has lead in it, or be vulnerable to lawsuits. So if you think your product may be sold in CA, you put that warning on the packaging.

At least, this is how it was explained once.

Silicon is an alternative to lead; however, when silicon is used in a brass alloy, the scrap must never be mixed with leaded brass scrap because of contamination and safety problems.[13]

In October 1999 the California State Attorney General sued 13 key manufacturers and distributors over lead content. In laboratory tests, state researchers found the average brass key, new or old, exceeded the California Proposition 65 limits by an average factor of 19, assuming handling twice a day.[14] In April 2001 manufacturers agreed to reduce lead content to 1.5%, or face a requirement to warn consumers about lead content. Keys plated with other metals are not affected by the settlement, and may continue to use brass alloys with higher percentage of lead content.[15][16]"

I had 6 of them but on the advice of Matt Johnson at Thorne Brothers I went to the new Shimano Sienna 500 FD. Awesome reel and smooth and only $30. Great drag and spool design is improved. Hurry and buy them now because like anything else good the word will get out and Shimano with jack up the price.

I remember when I could get my Ticas for $30. Good luck now.
