Willowcats

From what I've seen, they seem to be a SE Minnesota thing. You can find them in Rochester and the areas around pool 4/5 of the Mississippi River.
The supply of these critters starts to get short about right now as well.

Good Fishing,
Mike

Get a tiny hook and split shot, some worms, and a light rod.

Go to the rip-rap of most on any river dam and dip the hook into the crevices of the rocks/rip-rap.

Madtoms (AKA) Stoncat, (AKA) Willowcats thrive in this stony environment. You should find enough to get bait.

They rarely stay out in the open very long during the warm water periods or during the day. Why, because everyone and their sister is trying to eat them, so why make it easy on them to do so.

So look for them hiding in their favorite haunts, rock and rubble.

If your interested in a non live bait alternative to Willowcats, that actually works, check out this article I wrote. These Salmo Bullheads are great cranks for imitating young cats, bullheads, and Willowcats. All top forage for river and lake basin walleye.
